Last Saturday, we experienced something truly extraordinary during the concert dinner that I organized with the talented pianist Ischico Velzel
Music and food told their stories to each other, in a sensory dialogue that unfolded over six unique and inspired courses.
The evening began with a double tartare meant to introduce us: one with mushrooms and oats, the other with avocado, fava beans, and watermelon marinated with seaweed. To accompany this dish, Ischico played an original piece, blending her music with the chorus of an Italian song we love from Levante, creating an intimate and engaging introduction.
The second course took us on a dance of elements inspired by an Armenian composer, paired with a pea and mint soup drizzled with spicy oil and oat cream. Each spoonful reflected the perfect synergy between the dish and the melodies.
Next, a tribute to an Estonian pianist brought a shot of tomato juice to the table, accompanied by a crostini with mushrooms, oat cheese, and raw onions. The delicate and evocative musical notes mirrored the essence of the dish, creating a moment of pure harmony.
From the Baltic region, we flew to Spain, where a warm and enveloping paella danced to the sounds of Spanish music, crafting a combination of flavors and sounds that delighted the senses.
The evening continued with a trilogy dedicated to women, with three pieces by a female composer that served as a backdrop to a tasting of tomatoes stuffed with almond ricotta, zucchini carpaccio with vegan parmesan, and an eggplant roll filled with hummus and soy. Each bite was elevated by the musical compositions, celebrating feminine strength and creativity.
To conclude, a special moment: an improvised piece by Ischico. Not knowing what the dessert would be, she tasted the tiramisu with coconut cream and whiskey cream before sitting at the piano and, through her music, shared her culinary experience, gifting us a unique and unrepeatable finale.
